Select and add if your HVAC system has heating or cooling zone equipment. Zone equipment typically include smaller units (1-6 tons) serving a single zone (such as a hotel room). Identify the appropriate Heating and Cooling equipment types present and complete the inputs below for zone equipment.

Note:  If zone equipment is served by plant loops or VRF Condenser Units, then those should be created first.

Energy Asset Score data entry options for Zone Equipment

Name  Default component text and counters are automatically added. This entry may be edited to include other descriptive or identifying text.

System Type –  Ten common types of HVAC systems are available to select when adding Zone Equipment distribution equipment to a building. After making a selection, review the Heating and Cooling sources that are automatically populated. Create and link Plant Loops as needed and prompted for certain system types. Refer to the HVAC System Types section for a table of suggested  configurations, and guidance regarding System Type selections.

Linked VRF Condenser Unit – Menu item available if VRF selected as the System Type. A VRF Condenser Unit  must be created and selected here to complete the data entry for the Zone Equipment.

Cooling Equipment

Cooling Source– Pull-down menu selections. Select your installed cooling equipment type  from  the following:

No Cooling – If no mechanical cooling equipment is installed

Terminal DX – Included as part of Packaged terminal air-conditioner (PTAC); Packaged terminal heat pump  (PTHP);  Water-Loop Heat Pump (WLHP); Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP); and Window Air Conditioner Systems.

Plant – Select this type if a Plant Cooling Loop was previously entered. The  type of Plant (Chiller or District) will be available to select under the Plant Loop field.

VRF – Automatically selected when VRF is selected as the System Type. This source is not available to select for any other System Type.

Plant Loop (Cooling) – Menu item available if plant or hot water baseboard is selected as the heating source. Pull-down menu selections: Previously defined Cooling Plant Loops.

Heating Equipment

Heating Source– Pull-down menu selections. Select your installed heating equipment type  from  the following:

No Heating – If no mechanical heating equipment is installed.

Single Zone Central Furnace – Natural gas, fuel oil, or propane-fired or electric resistance furnace.

Heat Pump – One or more factory-made assemblies that normally include an indoor conditioning coil,  compressor(s), and an outdoor refrigerant-to-air coil or refrigerant-to-water heat exchanger. These units provide  both  heating and cooling functions.

Plant – Available selection for Four Pipe Fan Coil Units, Radiators, or Other Systems. Select this source if a Plant Heating Loop was previously entered. The Plant Loop name and type (Boiler or District) will be available to select under the Plant Loop field.

Convective Baseboard: Electric  – Select this source as a Secondary Heating and Cooling System. May be added to a block after either a Window Air Conditioner, Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, or Four Pipe Fan Coil Unit system has been created and assigned.

Convective Baseboard: Hot Water  – Select this source as a Secondary Heating and Cooling System. May be added to a block after either a Window Air Conditioner, Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, or Four Pipe Fan Coil Unit system has been created and assigned. A Heating Plant Loop must be created and linked to this selection.

VRF  – Automatically selected when VRF is selected as the System Type. This source is not available to select for any other System Type.

Fuel Type – Menu item available if central furnace or heat pump selected as the heating  source.  Pull-down menu selections: Natural Gas (default for central furnaces; not available for heat pumps), Fuel Oil, Propane, or  Electricity  (only option for heat pumps; default and hidden for baseboards).

Condenser Type – Menu item available if heat pump selected as the heating source. Pull-down menu selections: Air (default), Ground or Water.  Note: Ground and Water options are only displayed after water-loop heat pump or ground source heat pump System Types have been selected.

Plant Loop (Heating) – Menu item available if plant or hot water baseboard is selected as the heating source. Pull-down menu selections: Previously defined Heating Plant Loops.

Condenser Plant Loop – Menu item available for water-loop heat pump or ground source heat pump System Types. Pull-down menu selections: Previously defined Condenser Plant Loops.

Fan Systems

Total System Fan Power -- Input available if either of the ‘Advanced System Parameters’ or ‘Generate a verified Total HVAC System Performance Ratio’ boxes are checked in Settings.  Enter the value of electric power for all fans (supply, return, relief, exhaust) required to operate at fan system design conditions, divided by the design supply airflow rate (W/CFM).
