Here are the necessary steps to create an energy asset score for your building. Refer to the data entered on your Data Collection Short Form – Full Input Mode, or the Data Collection Long Form – Full Input Mode to make entries into the Asset Scoring Tool. See also Getting Started – Reporting Building Data for building input options in the Audit Template tool.

Note: Simultaneous entry of building data is allowed in the tool, which may be useful if teams are evaluating/entering data for different systems of a building at the same time.  See Contacts and Sharing for details on sharing buildings with other user accounts.

Step 1:  Input Basic Building Information. Click the green "Add a Building" button to begin. Click the green ‘Asset Score’ button to create an entry in Asset Score Full input mode; enter building name, location, year of construction (or year of last major retrofit), and gross floor area; then click the "Create Building" button.

Step 2:  Identify Building Uses. Select all applicable use types (e.g., retail, office, education, multi-family, library). See the mixed-use building rules for guidance.

Step 3: Create an Inventory of the Building's Features. Enter the building's envelope assembly components (roofs, skylights, windows, walls, floors) and its major energy systems (HVAC, lighting fixtures, hot water systems).

Step 4:  Create a 3-D Image of the Building. Create "blocks" to construct a 3-D image that approximates the building's geometry, configuration, and orientation.

Step 5:  Assign Use Types and Components to Each Building Block. Using the asset score toolbar icons at the top of the Building Project workspace, navigate among the asset sections and assign building use types, assembly components, and energy systems that were entered in Steps 2 and 3 by clicking and "dragging and dropping" onto each associated block in your building. Enter additional required Construction and Lighting information (window-to-wall ratio and number of lighting fixtures), by clicking on each block to display pop-up windows for entry.

Step 6:  Score your Building and Review your Energy Asset Score Report. Select the Score Building button to generate an energy asset score report for your building, which will be available as a PDF file to view/download.

Note: Required data entry fields present in the tool are indicated with a red star (*). If a nonrequired field is left blank, the tool will infer a value based on system type, vintage, and location.
